Kabir Singh defeated Avengers Endgame as the most searched movie on Google in India in 2019.

Kabir Singh defeated Avengers Endgame as the most searched movie on Google in India in 2019.

The year 2019 saw some very big releases in Bollywood. And some epic flops as well. But 100 crore rupees (or more) at the box office will not guarantee you a spot in Google's top trends. This is an achievement only a few can achieve.

Google India released its trend list for 2019, which includes the top 10 most searched movies of the year.

But if we look at the list of the top 5 films of this year, then it is surprising for everyone. Unlike last year's list, which featured four Hindi films and Top 5 (2.0, Baaghi 2, Race 3, Avengers: Infinity War and Tiger Zinda Hai, in descending order), this year's list has surprisingly fewer Hindi films Are. The 6-down, of course, is more than the list for Hindi content.

Here's who made it to the top 10 and why:

1. Kabir Singh (June 21, 2019)

Love it or hate it, but you still had to search for it. Shahid Kapoor's Kabir Singh, Vijay Deverakonda's Arjun Reddy's remake, both directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, has emerged as the most searched film of 2019. Kabir Singh, perhaps the only film in recent history, managed to divide India into two distinct parts. Adha - one who loved and identified with the film for his love story, and others who were left speechless by his playful performance of toxic masculinity. It sure seems to have worked in Shahid Kapoor's favor, as he overtook Avengers: Endgame. The Avengers: Endgame, Friends. We settle our case.

2. Avengers: EndGames (April 26, 2019)

Shahgad's Struggling Behind Kabir Singh is a film that represents the end of an era. Globally, Avengers: Endgame defeated Avatar's lifetime collection, with some help. But in India, it has managed to push past other native Hindi releases to claim second place. A Marvel film that retained its place in the top 5, for the second year in a row (Avengers Infinity War was ranked 4th in 2018), goes to show how much we love superhero movies.

3. Joker (October 2, 2019)

Talking about superhero films, a super-villain film has claimed the third position in the top 5 list. But then, without going into the Marvel vs. DC fight where no one really wins, the Joker deserves it. Joaquin Phoenix's Joker has emerged as the highest-grossing R-rated film globally. And a lot of that credit is chosen to tell Todd Phillips a very problematic story. While we continue to debate whether the Joker glorifies violence or just depicts anarchy, the film casually rises to the third-most searched spot on Google India.

4. Captain Marvel (March 8, 2019)

And as the Marvel vs. DC fight continues, Captain Marvel claims the fourth most searched spot on Google Trends. Captain Marvel is the first female superhero in the Marvel cinematic universe other than Black Widow, who was introduced, but was never given the original story (until now, the Black Widow film will be released in 2020). Brie Larson has also emerged as the 9th most searched actor on Google's global trending list thanks to Captain Marvel. Captain Marvel was also important because it came just after the Avengers Infinity War, which ends with Nick Fury texting Carol Danvers (Brie Larson). It made sense that Captain Marvel would become a gamechanger for Avengers: Endgame.
